Cloud Migration & Strategy — Cloud Readiness Assessment & Workload Migration

Move to the cloud with a clear strategy, not just a lift-and-shift. We plan, execute, and optimise cloud migrations across AWS, Azure, and GCP — with compliance, cost modelling, and zero-downtime as first-class requirements.

Are You Ready?

Cloud Migration Readiness

Before moving a single workload, organisations need clarity across five dimensions. Most migration failures trace back to gaps discovered mid-flight — not technical complexity.

Application Portfolio

Which applications move to cloud, which stay on-premise, and which should be retired or replaced? Without an inventory, you can't plan a migration.

Data Gravity

Where does your data live, how much of it exists, and what are the egress transfer costs? Migrating 200TB behaves very differently to migrating 2TB.

Compliance Requirements

HIPAA, SOC 2, GDPR, and FINMA impose specific controls on where data lives and how it's accessed. Your target cloud must meet them — not just you.

Team Capability

Does your team have the cloud skills to operate the new environment post-migration — or do you need upskilling, augmentation, or a managed service wrapper?

TCO Modelling

Have you modelled total cost of ownership for cloud vs current infrastructure, including licensing, egress, reserved capacity, and FinOps optimisation?

Migration Strategies

Choosing the Right Migration Path

Not all workloads should migrate the same way. The right strategy depends on the application's architecture, criticality, and your business objectives.

Lift & Shift

Rehost

Low Risk $
2–4 weeks/app
Best for: Legacy apps, quick wins

Move applications to cloud as-is with minimal changes. Fastest path with lowest transformation risk — but leaves cloud economics unrealised.

Re-Platform

Lift & Reshape

Medium Risk $$
4–8 weeks/app
Best for: Moderate optimisation

Make targeted changes to use cloud-managed services — replace self-managed databases with RDS, containers with ECS. More benefit, moderate effort.

Re-Architect

Cloud-Native

Higher Risk $$$
8–16 weeks/app
Best for: Maximum cloud benefit

Redesign applications around cloud-native patterns — microservices, serverless, event-driven. Highest effort, highest long-term return.

Hybrid / Multi-Cloud

Stay & Extend

Medium Risk $$
Ongoing
Best for: Regulatory requirements

Keep sensitive workloads on-premise or span multiple clouds. Ideal for regulated industries with data residency requirements.

Most migrations use a mix of strategies. We help you choose the right one for each workload.

Why Kansoft

Why Clients Choose Us for Cloud Migration

200+ Cloud Migrations Delivered

Proven track record across AWS, Azure, and GCP — from single-application moves to full data centre consolidations.

Assessment-First Approach

We plan before we move. Every migration starts with a readiness assessment to eliminate surprises mid-flight.

Compliance-Aware by Default

Every migration is designed with HIPAA, SOC 2, GDPR, and FINMA requirements built in — not retrofitted after the fact.

FinOps Built Into Every Migration

We model costs before you commit, right-size after you land, and set up governance to prevent cloud bill surprises.

Post-Migration Managed Services

We don't disappear after cutover. SLA-backed managed cloud support is available from day one of production.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about cloud migration — answered clearly.

How long does a typical cloud migration take?
It depends on scope. A single application lift-and-shift can take 2–4 weeks. A full data centre migration with 50+ workloads typically runs 3–6 months in phased waves. We scope timelines precisely during the assessment phase — not as a guess upfront.
Will our applications experience downtime during migration?
For most workloads, no. We use parallel-run strategies where both old and new environments run simultaneously, with cutover happening during a maintenance window of minutes rather than hours. For databases, we use continuous replication tools to minimise the downtime window to near-zero.
How do you handle data migration for large databases?
We use purpose-built data migration tooling — AWS DMS, Azure Data Factory, Striim — combined with pre-migration schema conversion and post-migration data validation. For multi-TB databases we run parallel replication so that by cutover day, only the delta needs to move.
What is the difference between lift-and-shift and re-platforming?
Lift-and-shift (rehost) moves your application to cloud with minimal changes — same OS, same database, same application code. Re-platforming makes targeted changes to use cloud-managed services, such as replacing a self-managed MySQL instance with RDS, or swapping EC2 autoscaling for containerised deployments. Re-platforming costs more upfront but delivers better operational economics.
How do you ensure compliance during cloud migration?
Compliance requirements drive our landing zone design. Before any workload moves, we establish the IAM policies, encryption standards, network segmentation, and audit logging required by your regulatory framework — whether that's HIPAA, SOC 2, GDPR, or FINMA. We also run automated compliance scans (CIS benchmarks) against the cloud environment before production cutover.
What happens after migration — do you offer ongoing cloud management?
Yes. Our Managed Cloud & DevOps service provides SLA-backed ongoing operations — monitoring, incident response, cost optimisation, and security patching. Many clients transition directly from migration project to managed service, maintaining the same team context without a handoff gap.
